  • How to Do Stage 1 at Home

Stage 1is thefirst phase of performance tuning for a vehicle, focused exclusively on modifying the software of the engine control unit (ECU).

    Procedure:

    1. – Have Kess v2 or Mpps, depending on the car model

    2. – Read the PBX ID using Kess v2 or Mpps. Once you’ve read it, you’ll know the hardware and software versions you need to look for; both must match, otherwise an error will occur when you import the file.

    3. Read the original file and save it safely.

    4. Look for the Stage 1 ECU file on this website. If you can't find it, feel free to contact us—we have some files that haven't been uploaded yet.

    5. – Write the Stage 1 file using Mpps or Kess v2.

    • Cost and Legality
      • Price in Spain:It generally ranges from€320 to €600, depending on the number of cylinders and the car's model line, if you have it done at arepair shop.
      • With this download, you can do it in your car for€15if you haveKess v2orMpps.
      • VehicleInspection (ITV):The vehicle can pass the inspection as long as the modification does not negatively affect pollutant emissions and, ideally, is certified if full legal compliance is sought.
    • To download the file, you first need to know which one corresponds to your ECU.
    • You can use the search function on our website if you know which file you need; we recommend always reading the original first—creating a new one is a simple process.

What sets it apart is thatit doesn't require any changes to physical components; the engine, turbo, and exhaust remain completely stock.

    Key Points of Stage 1:

      • Operation:Electronic parameters such asturbo pressure, fuelinjectionmaps, and ignition timing are adjusted.
      • Power gain:
        • Turbo Engines:This is where the difference is most noticeable, with power increases of between20% and 30%.
        • Naturally Aspirated Engines:The improvement is more modest, at around10%.
      • Consumption: During normal driving, you can reduce consumption fuel consumption (up to 8%) due to increased torque, which allows the vehicle to be driven in higher gears.
        • No mechanical changes:The original engine, turbocharger, and exhaust system remain; only electronic parameters such as fuel injection and turbo pressure are adjusted.
        • Power gain:
          • Turbo Engines:A significant increase of between20% and 30%(about 20–40 CV extra).
          • Naturally Aspirated Engines:A modest improvement of between5% and 10%.
        • Fuel Economy:Under normal driving conditions, it can reduce fuel consumption by up to8%by improving torque at low RPMs.Reliability:It is considered the safest modification because it complies with the manufacturer’s safety and emissions limits. Additionally, it is reversible and usually allows the vehicle to pass theITV inspectionwithout any issues. Stage 1is a reprogramming of the engine control unit (ECU) software designed to optimize performance without requiring any physical changes to the vehicle. It is the most popular modification due to its balance of cost, power, and reliability.
